Employee Ownership for BIPOC Workers
Apis & Heritage empowers marginalized workers build wealth by financing employee stock ownership plans.
In brief: On May 24th, 2022, Apis & Heritage Capital Partners (A&H) announced their investments in Apex Plumbing Co. and Accent Landscape Contractors, Inc., which set up Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOPs) as part of receiving Apis & Heritage’s investment.
Apis & Heritage firm raised more than $30M through June 2021 in order to facilitate employee-led buyouts and establish a finance model for transitioning ownership to mostly BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) workforces. The employee buyout structure provides BIPOC workers in essential industries with equity in a successful business, creating more opportunities for expanding wealth.
A&H was incubated by the Democracy Work Institute, is a think tank focused on expanding employee ownership to marginalized communities, including BIPOC, recent immigrants, and low-wage workers often shut out from good jobs and business ownership opportunities.
